If I am in a nursing home, is it too late to give away my assets and qualify for Medicaid?

Question: If I am in a nursing home, is it too late to give away my assets and qualify for Medicaid?

Answer: If you are in a nursing home it’s not too late to give away your assets and qualify for Medicaid. There is a special rule though for Medicaid purposes that is called the 5 year look back rule. It may be 5 years before you qualify for Medicaid, but there may be some planning that you want to do even though you are currently in a nursing home and may have to wait for 5 years before you qualify for Medicaid.
