What is ancillary probate?

Question: What is ancillary probate?

Answer: Ancillary probate is required when the decedent owns property in a state that is outside his residence at the time he passes away. For example, if an individual who dies has property in Florida and they are re resident of Ohio they would need to have ancillary probate of the property that is owned in Florida handled by a Florida attorney.
