I do not trust my child's spouse. How can I protect my child's inheritance?

Question: I do not trust my child's spouse. How can I protect my child's inheritance?

Answer: Well if you don’t trust your child spouse, and you want to try and protect the inheritance from that spouse, one effective tool is a trust. The property can be left to your child in a trust and you can protect that upon the death of your child that the property will pass to your grandchildren. I’ve found it very difficult that they want to keep the family money within the family and the trust is really an effective tool in order to provide for the transfer of the property in successive generations.
