Is it better to transfer my house and/or other assets to my children during my lifetime to avoid probate?

Question: Is it better to transfer my house and/or other assets to my children during my lifetime to avoid probate?

Answer: I do not believe it is better to transfer your house during your lifetime to your children to avoid probate. I believe probate is not an expensive process and when we balance the cost of probate versus a couples financial security, most clients are not that financially secure and they should retain their house and the ownership of their house until they pass away even though there may be a cost associated with probate.
