What is a durable power of attorney?

Question: What is a durable power of attorney?

Answer: A durable power of attorney is a document that you appoint an individual to handle your financial decisions if you become disabled. It’s durable during your period of disability and what’s important is that the person that’s making financial decisions can only do what you’ve identified in that durable power of attorney. I highly recommend that you do not use a form document in order to do a durable power of attorney but you carefully review that document and review it with an attorney that is competent to advise you on all of the provisions that may or may not be included in a durable power of attorney.
