Must third parties honor a power of attorney?

Question: Must third parties honor a power of attorney?

Answer: Third parties typically honor a power of attorney; however, there is nothing in the law that makes them required to do so. There may be a question to its validity or there may be circumstances that the person that you are trying to work with to use the power of attorney can refuse to accept the power of attorney. If this occurs then you have to use alternative methods to work with them to convince them to use the power of attorney, but there is nothing you can force them to legally make them required to use the power of attorney.
