Should I notify my bank about a durable power of attorney?

Question: Should I notify my bank about a durable power of attorney?

Answer: Typically, we would not recommend that you need to notify your bank regarding your durable power of attorney. A lot of times we recommend that the power of attorney be recorded at the county clerk’s office and typically that’s adequate notification to substantiate the validity of the power of attorney in the event that someone would need to use it in the future. The fact that it has been a recorded document would assure the bank that it is valid and they should accept the power of attorney that you have executed.
