Should I talk with the person I intend to appoint before completing a durable power of attorney?

Question: Should I talk with the person I intend to appoint before completing a durable power of attorney?

Answer: I believe that you should talk with the person that you intend to appoint to be your power of attorney so that that individual is aware of the situation as well as willing to accept that appointment. In the event that that person would not be willing to accept the appointment then you would want to try and designate another person and not have to go through successive powers of attorney alternatives in your document in the event that this person would be unwilling to serve for whatever reason.
