What is a durable power of attorney?

Question: What is a durable power of attorney?

Answer: A durable power of attorney is a form that is used in order for you to grant an individual the rights to act on your behalf. The durable power of attorney is only effective for the things that you designate within the power of attorney that that person is authorized to do. It could include writing checks on your behalf, or handling your bank accounts, it could be involved in making decisions on your behalf, and it could be signing your tax return. The power of attorney needs to be very broad and you need to make sure that the power of attorney covers all of the things that you would want that person to do on your behalf.
