Must I leave something to my spouse and my children in my will?

Question: Must I leave something to my spouse and my children in my will?

Answer: You are not required to leave something to your spouse and children in your will. Your will is your estate plan and it’s interesting though when you look at the will it only covers the probate assets so your beneficiary designations of life insurance, your retirement plans, your transfer on death accounts, you joint survivorship accounts all of those things operate outside of your will so you need to look at your overall estate plan to provide who gets what and when.
